Recently BL Design, a Vancouver based event design company, represented the BC event industry and took home the top award in Canstruction. BL Design teamed up with Metropolitan Printers in the creation of its award winning sculpture "Take a Slice Out of Hunger". George Kallas, owner of Metropolitan Printers, receives double kudos as he was the man who had the foresight and brilliance to bring Canstruction to Vancouver in the first place.

Canstruction is a competition where teams, usually from within an industry or company, build sculptures out of cans and container food products. At the end of the competition this product is then donated to the food bank. Our sculpture was constructed out of approximately 6500 cans. It consisted mostly of salmon, but also included tomato paste, tuna, tomatoes, kool-aid, water chestnuts, and meatballs and gravy. Last year, the inaugural year, CANstruction Vancouver surpassed all records, winning international awards and becoming the most successful event in the global anti-hunger project's 10 year history. Canstruction Vancouver raised over 122,000 cans of food for the Greater Vancouver Food Bank Society. 30 teams and 198 companies participated by sponsoring, designing and building awe-inspiring structures entirely out of canned and non-perishable foods items. This year these numbers are expected to be topped.
BL Design has been an active design company in Vancouver for the past two years. It is an award winning company that designs corporate and public events, galas and parties, exhibits and pavilions, fan festival events, trade show booths, and opening ceremonies. Please feel free to take a look at our website www.bldesign.ca to get an idea of our capabilities.
We would like to post a challenge to the event industry for next year to put our incredible creative resources to work on this great cause! Get a team together, find an idea, and create a sculpture! Further information on Canstruction can be had by logging on to www.canstructionvancouver.com.
