Whistler chosen to host Adventure Travel World Summit in October
Like a skilled ski boot fitter, Tourism Whistler has helped create the perfect fit with the announcement that Whistler has been chosen as the location for this year's Adventure Travel World Summit.
Working with industry partners and Whistler resort members, Tourism Whistler helped secure the upcoming Summit to be held by the Adventure Travel Trade Association (ATTA) from October 4-6, 2007 at the TELUS Whistler Conference Centre.
Whistler was chosen in part because it is "recognized as a world-class environment focused on outdoor adventure, recreation and responsible tourism," according to the January 3, 2007 ATTA news release.
"We are honoured to be chosen as the host mountain location for the upcoming Adventure Travel World Summit, which is known in the industry as the premier forum for leaders to work together towards sustainable growth in adventure travel," said Karen Goodwin, Director of Sales, Tourism Whistler. "We look forward to showcasing Whistler's success in this area, as well as drawing inspiration and knowledge from the many other delegates who will share their successes."
The ATTA are expecting 600 delegates including tour operators, tourism boards, lodges/resorts, adventure travel agents, attractions, and travel-oriented gear manufacturers.
ATTA said that this year's event will build on the success of last year's sold-out event in Seattle, which drew 400 delegates from 26 countries. Last year's Summit also attracted some of the world's leading adventure and travel media, including Outside Magazine, Conde Nast Traveler, BBC World Service and National Geographic Adventure.
"Tourism Whistler, Whistler's mayor and the Canadian Tourism Commission have made the 2007 Adventure Travel World Summit organizers feel welcome from the start," said ATTA President Shannon Stowell in the news release.
Whistler ranked top in a delegate survey recently conducted by the ATTA about future Summit locations.
This announcement follows on the heels of the recent news that Whistler will host the Mountain Travel Symposium (MTS) - the largest and longest-running annual gathering of mountain travel professionals in North America - from April 15-21, 2007. The MTS is expected to bring 1,000 delegates to Whistler, including North America's top buyers and sellers of mountain resort products.
Tourism Whistler is the member-based marketing and sales organization representing Whistler, operating the TELUS Whistler Conference Centre, the Whistler Golf Club, in-resort Visitor Services centres, and tourismwhistler.com, as well as 1-800-WHISTLER and whistler.com - the official call to action for Whistler.
