Downtown Cultural Precinct Announced for 2010
The Province of British Columbia and the City of Vancouver have unveiled plans for a cultural precinct in Vancouver's downtown core. Together they have pledged $10 million Cdn for planning and initial construction of the precinct which will include a two-block area bordered by Georgia, Hamilton, Dunsmuir and Beatty Streets, as well as the Robson Square complex. Projects being proposed for the precinct include a renovated Queen Elizabeth Theatre, a new National Gallery of Aboriginal Art, a provincial Asia-Pacific Museum of Trade and Culture, and a possible move of the Vancouver Art Gallery from its current location at Robson Square.

The National Trade Centre Two-Time BOMA Award Winner
The Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA, Toronto) recently awarded The National Trade Centre, Building of the Year in the Public Assembly Category, plus, the BOMA Certificate of Building & Management Excellence Award.

The National Trade Centre’s submissions were recognized for its commitment to environmental stewardship in its building operations which included a major lighting retrofit program designed to conserve energy and lower carbon emissions. Metro Toronto Convention Centre CEO Honoured
The Metro Toronto Convention Centre's (MTCC) President and CEO, Barry Smith, has been honoured for his contributions to the industry by the Ontario Hostelry Institute (OHI).

Smith, who has been serving as the MTCC's chief executive since 1998, was named a Fellow of the Institute at the annual Ontario Hostelry Institute's Gold Awards Dinner during a gala award ceremony held April 27, 2006 at Toronto's Four Seasons Hotel. Smith was one of only 11 people from the industry inducted as Fellows of the Institute. The marquee event was attended by 525 senior leaders of the foodservice-hospitality industry.
