Look What’s Cooking at STIR
Every once in a while employees need to get away from the office and do something they can actually touch, handle and sink their teeth into - like FOOD.
Culinary co-operation is not only fun and delicious, but getting together as a team to cook your own lunch is a true team building experience that can help you achieve your corporate missions and goals.
Employees from accenture Inc. spent the morning on business, then broke away in teams to test their cooking skills and make their own lunch. The cooking experience collectively helped the group unwind and fostered a new sense of “togetherness”. It also broke down the traditional business hierarchy as different levels of management worked jointly in teams, each preparing a specific portion of the dishes to be served.

Canada's flagship Marriott hotel, formerly the Toronto Marriott Eaton Centre, has changed its name to Toronto Marriott Downtown Eaton Centre.
"We added the word downtown to our name in order to reclaim our identity as a downtown Toronto hotel," said Director of Sales and Marketing, Debra Sousa. "While the adjoining Eaton Centre is well known to Canadians, it may not be as familiar to travellers from the United States and abroad." The new name better communicates the central location of the hotel.
"In the hospitality industry, location is key," said Sousa. "We wanted to ensure that our name reflected one of the hotel's top selling points -- its location in the heart of downtown Toronto." Email melissa.armstrong@marriott.com for more information

Transitions
by Joy Fox
Nowadays, when you hear the phrase “I’m in transition” it means that person is job hunting or between jobs. I could have said that several times over the years. It would not have meant I was job hunting, only changing my direction, sometimes within the job, sometimes in a new direction.
In 1993 I took an early retirement from a large corporation. While working in the bosom of a fairly large company, one tends to feel secure, although not necessarily happy. Thus it was for me. I had a good job with a lot of responsibility, but it wasn’t enough. I hated the rules and policies that went along with the job. It was time for a change, making my own rules, being my own boss. It is a major transition, as any entrepreneur will tell you.
There were several independent meeting planners operating successfully with their own clients and since I had been involved with meeting planning for several years, that choice was a natural direction to take. It comes as a shock, to find out you are the business! You do everything. It is a challenging position to be in....

Souls In Rhythm (SiR) may very well be the most undiscovered critically acclaimed band in Canada. An anomaly on the prairies, SiR is a four piece funk/soul squad from Calgary, Alberta. Even before the release of their debut album, they have already amassed a heap of accolades. In their relatively unknown existence they are: finalists of the National Songwriting Competition, winners of the CBC Showcase Competition, finalists of the Alberta-wide ‘Big Break’ Songwriting Competition, finalists of the Calgary Urban Talent Search, finalists of the Unsigned Vibe Urban Music Competition and winners of Calgary’s Last Band Standing Performance Competition.
|
Formed by vocalist/keyboardist Scott Henderson, whose last project was the R&B vocal group The EarthTONES (5 top-20 hits, 2 Juno nominations, toured the world etc.), SiR seems destined to climb as equally lofty heights.
